How long does the treatment last?
On daily-driven vehicles, Lanoguard provides approximately 12 months of protection before a top-up is recommended. For vehicles used less frequently — weekend cars, seasonal vehicles, or cars stored for parts of the year — the coating lasts considerably longer, sometimes 18 to 24 months. Wear is proportional to use, so the more your vehicle is on the road, the sooner it will need refreshing. If you’re unsure whether your vehicle is due, we can offer a quick inspection to assess the coating condition and confirm whether a top-up is needed.
Can Lanoguard be applied to a vehicle that already has underseal?
Yes, in most cases. Existing underseal needs to be assessed first — if it’s intact and well-bonded, we can often apply Lanoguard directly over it, provided the surface is clean and dry. If the existing coating is flaking, bubbling, or poorly adhered, we remove it completely before treatment to ensure proper bonding. We’ll assess your vehicle during booking and advise accordingly.
Will it cover existing rust?
Lanoguard is not a rust cure — it won’t reverse existing corrosion. However, it effectively seals surface rust and stops it from spreading by cutting off moisture and oxygen, which are what rust needs to propagate. For vehicles with more advanced rust, we recommend addressing that separately before treatment. Surface rust and minor corrosion are well-contained by Lanoguard and will not worsen underneath the coating.
How do I maintain it after application?
There’s no maintenance required on your part — you simply wash your vehicle as normal. Lanoguard resists road salt, grime, and moisture without any additional products or treatments. For daily-driven vehicles, an annual top-up is essential to maintain full protection as the coating naturally thins through use. We’ll remind you when this is due, or you can book an inspection if you’d like us to check whether your vehicle is ready for a top-up.
Is my vehicle suitable for Lanoguard treatment?
Lanoguard is suitable for most vehicles — saloons, SUVs, vans, 4x4s, and performance cars. It’s ideal for vehicles exposed to harsh conditions, coastal environments, winter salt, off-road driving, or simply for owners who want to preserve their vehicle’s structure long-term. There’s no lower age or mileage limit — a well-maintained older vehicle benefits as much as a new one. We’ll confirm suitability when you book, and we’re happy to inspect any vehicle beforehand if you’d like to check whether treatment is appropriate.
Why does the vehicle need to stay overnight?
The application itself is completed in one day. However, once applied, Lanoguard requires approximately 24 hours to cure fully before the vehicle is driven. This curing time is essential — driving the vehicle before the coating has set can affect adhesion and compromise the protective bond. We apply the treatment, then the vehicle stays with us overnight to cure in a controlled environment, ready for collection the following day.
What areas of the vehicle are treated?
We treat the full underside of your vehicle: wheel arches, sill areas, chassis rails, floor pans, transmission tunnels, differential housings, and all structural members. We also treat any seams, cavities, and hard-to-reach areas we can access. The treatment reaches areas that are impossible to protect adequately by hand. We don’t treat the exhaust system, as Lanoguard is not designed for extreme heat surfaces.
Is Lanoguard safe on air suspension and rubber components?
Yes. Lanoguard is fully compatible with rubber boots, CV gaiters, brake lines, electrical wiring, and air suspension components. It won’t degrade rubber or plastic, and it won’t interfere with sensors or moving parts. The formula is designed specifically for modern vehicles with complex undercarriages. If you have specific concerns about a particular system on your vehicle, mention it when booking and we’ll advise.
What is the difference between the initial treatment and the annual top-up?
The initial treatment is a full application to a clean, prepared surface — it establishes the complete protective barrier across your entire undercarriage. The annual top-up renews and reinforces the existing coating, addressing any areas that have thinned or worn through the year. For daily-driven vehicles, this annual refresh is essential to maintain full protection. Think of it like a coat refresh versus a full respray — the top-up takes less time and costs less, but delivers the same protective benefits and extends your coverage another 12 months.
Is it worth doing on an older vehicle?
Absolutely. Older vehicles often need protection more than new ones — the protective coatings applied at the factory have already degraded, and the vehicle has years of accumulated exposure. Lanoguard can extend the structural life of your vehicle significantly, which is particularly valuable if you plan to keep it. It also restores a level of protection that simply isn’t there anymore on an older vehicle. For classics and cherished older cars, it’s one of the best investments you can make in long-term preservation.
What happens if Lanoguard gets damaged or worn through?
The annual top-up addresses normal wear and tear. If the coating is damaged in a specific area — through an accident, mechanical work, or exceptional wear — we can touch up that section without re-treating the entire vehicle. If you notice any damage or thin areas between annual treatments, bring it back and we’ll assess. The key thing is: damage in one area doesn’t compromise the rest of the coating, and repair is straightforward.
Does it affect my MOT or vehicle inspection?
No. Lanoguard is a thin, flexible coating that doesn’t interfere with brake lines, fuel lines, sensors, or any components inspected during an MOT. It doesn’t create surface irregularities that would concern an inspector, and it doesn’t mask rust — if there’s underlying corrosion, an inspector will still see it. In fact, by preventing new rust and sealing existing surface rust, Lanoguard can help your vehicle pass its MOT more easily.
